Japanese government donates Sh8.4M for the construction and rehabilitation of Gesurura primary school

The Japanese government has donated Sh8.4 million for the construction and rehabilitation of Gesurura primary school in Kitutu Chache North Sub County.

Japanese Ambassador to Kenya Tatsushi Terada said the money will be used to build six classrooms, renovate five classrooms, build eight pit latrines, install three water tanks and acquire 200 desks to accommodate 600 pupils.

Speaking when he visited the school, the Ambassador who was hosted by Kisii County Governor James Ongwae said the Government of Japan has been offering funds to the country to nonprofit organizations through Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) since 1989.

The event was witnessed by area Member of Parliament Jimmy Angwenyi, Deputy County Commissioner Denis Ogolla, Kitutu Chache North sub county administrator and Monyerero ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Charles Onchonga among other leaders.

The Governor thanked the Japanese Government for the grant saying it will improve the school’s educational environment and promised to closely work with the Government of Japan and the community to ensure that the project is a success.

“The project will create a conducive learning environment for the pupils in order to enable them improve their academic performance,” said Ongwae

At the same time, the Governor thanked the Japanese Government for its contribution in the improvement of infrastructure at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH).

He said, though the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Japanese Government built the inpatient and outpatient complex at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) at a cost of KShs.770 million.

The building was commissioned on June 24th 2012 by former President Hon. Mwai Kibaki and the then Japanese Ambassador to Kenya Toshihisa Takata. It houses a specialized clinic, theatres, a maternity unit, the new born unit, the High Independency Unit (HDU), the causality department and a diagnostic centre.

“As a County Government, we continually seek partnerships and collaborations with local and international agencies to initiate projects that enhance service delivery to the people,” said Ongwae.
