Kisii county governor Hon. Simba Arati has officially released the Kisii county sports team for the Kenya Inter Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games.
Officiating the event, Kisii County Deputy Governor Elijah Obebo on behalf of the county boss, today flagged off a contingent of county officers set to participate in this year’s KICOSCA games.
A total of 26 teams from Kisii county will be taking part in the week long event scheduled to be held in Siaya County.
Speaking at the Gusii Stadium, the DG, emphasized that the KICOSCA games offer a vital platform for county governments to showcase their talent, strength, unity, and cultural diversity.
He urged the officers to uphold the highest levels of discipline both in the field and off the field throughout the competition.
County Secretary Earnest Osoro encouraged the participants to use the event to network, interact, and build bonds with colleagues from other counties.
County Executive Committee (CEC) member for Education Erick Ongeri noted that the annual event helps county staff appreciate and understand each other’s cultures through shared experiences, a process that strengthens national cohesion.
Chief Officer for Sports and Culture Emmanuel Momanyi reminded the teams that teamwork, mutual respect, and true sportsmanship should guide them in every discipline.
Last year, Kisii County participated in 16 disciplines, but this year the number has grown to 26.
The disciplines include Volleyball for men and women, Handball for men and women, Football, Netball, Basketball for men and women, Pool, Athletics for men and women, Chess, Darts, Tug of War for men and women, Cultural Music, and Set Piece presentations.
This increase reflects the county’s commitment to developing a wide range of talents and enhancing its competitiveness at the national level.
