World Aids Commemoration Day - 2025

Kisii County today marked World AIDS Commemoration Day with a symbolic march and official flagging-off ceremony.

The event began at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH), where Chief Officer for Health, Khalinder flagged off participants before they proceeded to Kisii University. The annual commemoration brought together county health officials, students, and community members under this year’s global theme, “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response.” in a unified call for continued awareness, prevention, and support in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

The County Executive Committee member (CEC) for Health, Ronald Nyakweba who graced the ceremony, using the platform to urge participants to take responsibility for their health and to actively participate in the fight against the spread of HIV.

Addressing the gathering, the CEC for Health, emphasized the importance of early testing and consistent awareness among young adults, noting that the youth remain one of the most at-risk age groups due to lifestyle vulnerabilities and limited access to reliable information.

“We encourage young people to know their status and make informed decisions. The fight against HIV is not just medical but also social, educational, and it begins with you,” the CEC said.

Chief Officer for Health, Khalinder echoed the message, encouraging residents to know their HIV status and to seek treatment without fear or stigma. She noted that timely testing and consistent use of prescribed medication play a key role in managing HIV and protecting community health.

The county leadership reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening HIV awareness campaigns and expanding access to testing and treatment across Kisii County.
