Mount Kenya University donates Ksh 500,000 towards the Kisii County bursary fund

The Mount Kenya University has donated a total of Ksh. 0.5 million towards the Kisii County bursary fund.

The money will supplement the County’s Ksh. 135 million bursary fund for needy and bright students.

Speaking during the launch of the university’s campus in Kisii, the institution’s chairman Dr. Simon Gicharu said the university will continue partnering with the Kisii county government to improve education standards.

”As a university, we strongly believe that the prosperity of our people will be driven by equipping them with the adequate knowledge and skills that will lead to a social and economic transformation,” said the chairman.

Governor James Ongwae who graced the occasion hailed the University for opening a branch in the County and vowed to support it.

He said his government has allocated a total of Ksh. 3 million bursary funds per ward for children from poor background and thanked the University for their support.

Gicharu noted that the university’s vision of being an African role model in training, research and innovation in applied science and technology matches that of the Kisii County Government, which is a prosperous County with high quality of life for its citizens.

He indicated that the University will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) and Nyamira Level 5 hospital that will enable the University introduce programmes in Pharmacy and Medicine.

In return, the Kisii community will have more Doctors, Pharmacists and Physicians and that will have a positive ripple effect on the community’s health and well-being.
