Team jets out to South Korea for training

A team of 15 people from Kisii County proceeds to South Korea for a two-week capacity building training on community development.

The delegation is comprised of Members of the Kisii County Assembly and technical officers in the fields of water, environment and natural resources, rural infrastructure development and agriculture.

The Korean International Coordinating Agency (KOICA) will meet the full costs of the training. Environment, Energy, Water and Natural Resources County Executive Member Skitter Ocharo is leading the delegation.

“We thank the South Korean Government for accepting our proposal to offer capacity building for the Kisii County Government. We have nominated chairs of respective committees in the county assembly and technical officers from the executive arm of government,” said Deputy Governor Joash Maangi during the pre-departure briefing.

The delegation will be trained on management of the environment and natural resources, development and management of county infrastructure, management of agriculture, tourism, small and medium enterprises as well as energy sources.

MCAs Ombasa Apepo (minority leader), Ronald Onduso, Bonface Wright and Anne Ghati are among those in the delegation.

“The training will involve site visits and presentations. The Korean Government has contributed immensely to the human resource development in this country,” said Simon Angote, the director, human resource development in the ministry of devolution.

He said the ministry had done the necessary checks to ensure the trip was beneficial to the County Government.

KOICA’s resident regional representative in Kenya Kim Eunsub said the South Korean Government was willing to offer support in human resource development.
