21-year-old Judy Kwamboka Marani was crowned Miss Tourism Kenya, Kisii County edition 2014, in a colourful gala ceremony at the Kisii University.
The Bachelor of Science in Public Health JKUAT student hails from Kegati in Nyaribari Chache Sub County.
She beat a strong field of ten finalists to emerge tops and will now carry the county's torch during the MTK national finals next month.
"I have never done modeling and my entry into this contest was literally accidental. I believed in myself right through the academy and thankfully, I made it," said an elated Kwamboka.
She thanked her parents John Marani and Beatrice Minda for the support they gave her throughout the competition days.
A social worker, the beauty queen has identified the empowerment of the girl child and combating malnutrition in Kisii County as her priority projects.
In his speech during the finals, Governor James Ongwae congratulated the winner and pledged to support all her projects during her reign. “This event illustrates the immense talent that abounds in Kisii County. Over the years, we have produced talented individuals in various fields including gold medalist Hezekiah Nyamao and Hellen Obiri. We expect the winner to market our county’s tourism,” said Ongwae.
Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, Kisii University Vice Chancellor Prof. John Akama, first lady Elizabeth Ongwae and several Members of the Kisii County Assembly graced the occasion.
