The Kisii County Assembly has begun vetting of chief officers appointed to various positions in the county government. Names of eight officers appointed by the County Public Service Board were submitted to the County Assembly for approval as required by the law. Speaker Kerosi Ondieki who chairs the seven member assembly’s Appointments Committee confirmed the names had been tabled before the house adding that the vetting process begins immediately. “We wish to inform the general public that the county assembly has received the list of officers nominated for the position of chief officer for appointment subject to the approval of the appointments committee of the house,” said Kerosi in his office. John Obwocha from Nyaribari Masaba has been nominated for the post of chief officer in charge of trade and industry. Michael Nyamute from Bonchari will head the administration, corporate services and stakeholder management. Three women Alice Abuki (Kitutu Chache South), Beatrice Barongo (South Mugirango) and Alice Nyariki (Nyaribari Chache) have been nominated to head the health services, Culture and social services and Agriculture dockets respectively. Wilfred Auma (Kitutu Chache North) is the Chief Officer Treasury and Economic Planning while Samuel Osoro Mogeni (Bomachoge Chache) is the chief officer in charge of Land, Housing, Physical Planning and Urban Development. Bishop Mugendi Nyakegogi principal David Ogega Kebiro (Bobasi) was picked for the Education, Labour and manpower Development docket. “The committee shall deliberate on the matter and come up with a schedule of public participation hearings across the county as part of the vetting process. We urge residents to turn up in large numbers and give their submissions on the nominated candidates,” said the chairman. Kerosi further said the post of chief officer in charge or Energy, Water and Natural resources as well as that of Roads and Public Works were yet to be filled because the public service board did not get suitable candidates. Bomachoge Borabu Sub County is not represented in the list submitted to the county assembly.
