Leaders from Kisii County have called on President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to ensure regional balance in state appointments.
Speaking at St. Anthony Marani catholic church and Masimba secondary school during a fundsdrive in aid of churches, the leaders expressed their dissatisfaction in the appointments saying the Gusii region has only one Cabinet Secretary slot in the Jubilee government.
The Deputy President, Kisii County Governor James Ongwae, Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, Ambassador to UN Habitat Prof. Sam Ongeri, MPs Mary Otara, Jimmy Angwenyi, Richard Onyonka, Stephen Manoti, Joel Onyancha, Zebedeo Opore, Elijah Moindi, and Richard Tongi were among the leaders present.
“The people of Kisii are ready to work with the national government but only if the president will ensure regional balance when making appointments,” said Onyonka.
Angwenyi told the Jubilee leadership to consider the community in future appointments saying the region has qualified people.
Governor Ongwae asked the president to intervene and have Riatirimba engineering plant operate as a technical institute to help youths acquire various technical skills.
Ruto observed that the county will be considered in senior appointments. He said the construction of roads that were earmarked for the annuity program will begin soon noting that tenders were opened last Friday. The roads are going to be constructed in every sub county among them Riana-Marani-Manga, Kegogi- Nyakeiri- Mosocho.
