It is a major relief for parents in Kisii county ahead of second term reopening, as Governor Simba Arati launches a KSh 315 million bursary programme for needy students, with each beneficiary set to receive KSh 5,000.
The programme was officially launched at Nyamarambe in South Mugirango, where the Governor announced that the funds have been distributed across all 45 wards in Kisii County, with each ward receiving KSh 7 million to support learners from vulnerable households.
The bursary will be released in phases, starting with Form Four and Form Three students to ensure that candidates and continuing learners receive timely support.
Governor Arati emphasized that each household will receive only one cheque, regardless of the number of applicants, to promote fairness and wider reach.
The Governor assured residents that this marks the first phase of the programme, with additional phases expected to follow and reach more beneficiaries.
The launch event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Hon. Elijah Obebo, alongside the County Secretary, Chief Officers, Directors, County staff, and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) alongside thousands of South Mugirango residents.
The County Government of Kisii continues to prioritize education support as a key driver of social and economic empowerment.
